The Folean forests ( Greek Δρυοδάσος Φολόης ) are deciduous oak forests in the western Peloponnese , Greece.

Forests cover an area of about 40 km². Located on the territory of Olympia in Nome Elida ( Western Greece ) on the Foloi Plateau near the Foloi settlement at an altitude of more than 600 m. Today, forests are a protected zone. In antiquity, forests occupied a much larger territory. According to myths , the Folean forests were the home of centaurs and dryads (the name " dryads " comes from the word " oak " [1] ).
In the forests, the Freinetto oak prevails, reaching 15–20 m in height. Less common are fluffy and stone oaks. The lower tier is occupied by ferns and asphodel thickets. Acorns are food for squirrels , hedgehogs , hares . Also in the forests live badgers , foxes , vipers , eagles , owls , magpies , etc. [2]
