Anatoly Mefodyevich Khorunzhiy ( Ukrainian: Anatoly Mefodiyovich Khorunzhiy , November 5, 1915 , village Malomikhaylovka (now Pokrovsky District , Dnipropetrovsk Region , Ukraine [1] ) - 1991 ) - Ukrainian Soviet writer and journalist.

Biography
Born into a peasant family. Soon he began to help his father with the housework. He began his working life as a fitter at a factory, and later collaborated in a regional newspaper. In 1938 he graduated from the Kharkov Institute of Journalism. He worked at the editorial board of the newspaper Kirovogradskaya Pravda, and headed the Kirovograd literary association Step.
A. Khorunzhiy - a participant in the Great Patriotic War, until 1945 a front-line correspondent for the newspaper of the Second Air Army “Wings of Victory” of the First Ukrainian Front.
In his memoirs, “Life in Aviation,” Air Marshal Stepan Krasovsky writes:
“At 12 o’clock on May 1, 1945, two groups of fighter planes took off from the airfield of Altena ... A group led by Hero of the Soviet Union V.K. approached Berlin Ishchenko. In it flew the commander of the 1st Guards Fighter Regiment I.A. Malinovsky, pilots I.D. Sviridov, A.T. Frolov, E.A. Antonov. The banner was on board the Malinovsky plane. In the second cabin of the Yak-9 was a special correspondent for the army newspaper, Captain A.M. Khorunzhiy . At the command of the pilot over the Reichstag, Khorunzhiy unfurled a scarlet six-meter banner with the inscription "Victory" and lowered it overboard ... "
After the war, the writer devoted much effort to journalistic work: he headed the editorial departments of the magazines Vitchizna and Dnipro, and was the editor of the newspaper Literary Ukraine .
Creativity
He published his first stories and essays in front-line newspapers during the years of World War II. In the army newspaper “Wings of Victory” was published with the continuation of his novel “Towards the Winds”.
The first published book of the Horunzhego is “Bukovinian Tales” (“Bukovinsky Opovidannya”, 1949).
Author of several books of essays, stories, novels: “On the virgin lands” (1954), “Unfinished flight” (1958), “The city above us” (1962), “Black burka”, “Three willows” (1964), “Illuminated Dawns ”(1967),“ Evening Road ”,“ The Last ”,“ Unforgettable Springs ”,“ Stronger than the Ocean ”(1978),“ Suprun ”(1980) and others. He co-authored with M. Devyatayev a documentary short story “Escape from Usedom Island” (Vtecha from Usedom Island, 1969; Russian translation under the title “Flight to the Sun”, 1972).
The main theme of the stories and stories of A. Khorunzhego is the heroism and courage of Soviet pilots during the years of the past war and in peaceful days. Most of his works are based on genuine events and facts. The author conveys the harsh atmosphere of the terrible days of the war, writes about the real strength of military friendship, partnership, the beauty of the feat in the name of the Fatherland.
The memoirs of A. Khorunzhego saw the light of the memory of the famous air aces: A. Pokryshkin - “Sky of War”, V. Lavrinenkov - “Return to Sky”, V. Efremova - “Squadrons fly over the horizon”.
Co-author of the script for the documentary “Wings of Victory” (1973).
