Biography
Born in a working family. He graduated from the Workers' Faculty at the Chelyabinsk Energy Technical School (now college) [1] , then worked as a mechanic. In 1936, Galkin was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1937, he graduated from the Voroshilovgrad military aviation school of pilots. Took part in the Soviet-Finnish war. Since 1941 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War [2] .
By August 1941, Lieutenant Mikhail Galkin commanded the link of the 4th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 20th Mixed Air Division, the 9th Army of the Southern Front . By that time, he had made 58 combat sorties, took part in 18 air battles, in which he shot down 5 enemy aircraft [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 27, 1942, Lieutenant Mikhail Galkin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for “exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” " Number 577 [2] .
July 21, 1942 died in an unequal air battle. He was buried in a mass grave in the village of Budogoshch, Kirishsky district of the Leningrad region [2] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner . A street in his hometown and a high school is named after Galkin. Gastin busts were installed in Plast and Budogoschi [2] .
