Pompeo Colonna, being suspected of conspiring to assassinate Pope Julius II and attack the Capitol, was deprived of his church titles and ranks, however, in July 1517, Pope Leo X elevated the cardinal title from the Roman titular church of the 12 Holy Apostles ( Santi XII Apostoli). In 1524, he transferred from the Church of the 12 Holy Apostles to the Church of San Lorenzo in Damoso. In the election of the popes Adrian VI and Clement VII, he played a decisive role. As Cardinal Pompeo Colonna was the church administrator of the archbishopric of Catania and Montreal in Sicily, the bishoprics of Potenz, Terni, Acerno, Rossano, Avers and Sarno.
