Biography

Born in the family of a rural teacher. After graduating from the external Lviv teacher’s seminary in 1920, she worked for a long period as a teacher and teacher in kindergartens in Galician villages, and conducted active community work among women and youth. In 1904, she founded the society “The Circle of Russian Girls” in the village (Ukrainian: “The Circle of Russian Girls”). She was repressed by the Polish authorities. Over the 12 days of August 1919, she had 17 searches, and was arrested 8 times. For five months she hid in the forests near the village. Krylos , and then in Rozhnyatov .

From 1922 until the end of her life she lived in her native Denisov. She taught here until 1950.

In 1938, she was pacified by the Polish authorities. The gendarmes flogged her, inflicted 130 stick blows on Ivanna, making her disabled.

After the accession of the Western Ukrainian lands to the USSR in September 1939, she was elected as a deputy of the National Assembly of Western Ukraine .

In 1941-1943 worked as the director of an agricultural school in the native village of Denisov.

Creativity

In 1905, the first works of I. Blazhkevich were published in the Lviv newspaper Narodna Slovo: “Breast on the grave of Mark Kagantsy”, “Above the grave of Adam Kopka”, “Guardian mother O. Sichinsky”, “Victims of the liberty in Chernyshov” whom the young poetess angrily opposed the bloody orders of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.

In addition, Ivanna Blazhkevich is the author of memoirs about I. Franko , O. Kobylyanskaya , V. Stefanik , T. Bordulyak , K. Ustiyanovich , A. Kulchitskaya and other prominent figures of Ukrainian culture. She owns a novel about the period of the First World War "Zhinka on the battle line . "

Collected songs, aphorisms, ethnographic materials. In 1911, she completed work on the ethnographic book “Denisov Clothing” , which was sent to the museum of Alexander III (now the Russian Ethnographic Museum ).

She initiated the creation of a local history museum in her native village.

Memory

  • A museum-estate of Ivanna Blazhkevich was created in the village of Denisov.
