Nikos Galis ( Greek Νίκος Γκάλης , née Nikolaos Georgalis ( Greek Νικόλαος Γεωργαλής ); born July 23, 1957 , Union City , New Jersey ) is a former Greek basketball player . He played as an attacking defender . He played for Aris for most of his career, with whom he won the Greek championship 8 times over 13 seasons and became the owner of the Greek Cup 7 times. Member of the Basketball Hall of Fame since 2007.

As part of the Greek national team, he became the champion of Europe in 1987 , the silver medalist of the 1989 European Championship , the champion of the Balkan Games of 1980 and 1986, and also participated in the 1986 World Cup .
Career
Club
Until the age of 15, Galis was engaged in boxing [1] . In 1975, he entered Seton Hall University, where he first played as a point guard , but then was transferred by the coach to the position of an attacking defender . Over 4 years, his average performance was 20.3 points per game. In the 1979 draft, Galis was selected as the “ Boston Celtics ” in the 4th round under the common 68th number [2] .
Before the beginning of the 1979/80 season, Galis moved to his historical homeland - to Greece and became an Arisa player. Debuted on December 2 in a game with Iraklis [1] .
