Biography
Born in 1846. In the years 1875-1877. lived in western equatorial Africa ( Gabon ) and founded his own trading house Bolton & Schleiden there . He described the results of his observations in the essay Ethiopien (Gamb. 1879), in which he pointed out to Germany the part of Africa that was still untouched by a foreign culture as a favorable field of economic activity that could play the same role for it as India did for England. Especially known as a fighter for colonial politics, the essay Überseeische Politik (Gamb., 1880–83).
Certificate of E.P. Blavatsky
In October 1885, W. Hubbe-Schleiden visited E.P. Blavatsky in Würzburg . Countess Wachtmeister later published his letter as an appendix to her memoirs. In it, Gubbe-Schleiden wrote:
I also saw her write down sentences, as if she were copying them from something in front of her eyes in a place where I had not seen anything. I did not pay much attention to the way it worked from the point of view of the phenomenon hunter and did not track the details for this purpose; but I know that I saw a large number of well-known blue notes made by K. X.'s hand as corrections or annotations in her manuscript ( The Secret Doctrine ), as well as in books that from time to time lay on her desk. And I noticed these notes mainly in the morning, before she began to work. I slept on the couch in her office after she left for the night, and the couch stood only a few steps from her desk. I well remember my surprise one morning, when I woke up and found a huge number of sheets of paper, all written in blue pencil, lying on her manuscript in the place where she was sitting at her desk. I don’t know how these sheets got there, but I didn’t see them before I went to bed, and nobody physically entered the room at night, because I sleep very sensitively. [3]
