Biography
Born on the island of Åland in 1811. He was an assistant professor of oriental languages in Helsingfors , then he studied at the Oriental faculty in St. Petersburg for 2 years and traveled to Arabia, Palestine, Persia and Syria (1843-1849) for 6 years using funds from the University of Helsingfors. Returning to his homeland, he was a professor of oriental languages in Helsingfors, where he died on October 23, 1852. His travel notes were published by (4 vols., Helsingfors, 1864–66).
