The Soviet War Memorial in Pankov (officially Cemetery Monument to the Soldiers of the Soviet Army , German Sowjetische Ehrenmal in der Schönholzer Heide ) is a memorial complex to the memory of the Red Army soldiers who fell during the storming of Berlin in April-May 1945. It is located in the Schönholzer-Heide Folk Park ( German: Schönholzer Heide ) in the Niedershenhausen district in the Pankov district of Berlin. One of the three main Soviet war memorials in Berlin (together with the memorials in Treptow Park and Tiergarten ).

History
The memorial was erected in May 1947 - November 1949 by a group of Soviet architects consisting of K. A. Solovyov, M. Belaventsev, V. D. Korolev. Sculptor I. G. Pershudchev .
The remains of 13,200 Soviet soldiers, out of a total of 80,000 who fell in the storming of Berlin, are buried on the territory of the memorial. The names of 3180 of them are known. In the center of the memorial is a syenitic obelisk with a height of 33.5 meters. 100 bronze plaques with the names of the fallen and 8 burial fields are set around, 1182 people are buried in each of them. In the mourning hall under the obelisk are the graves of two officers in the rank of colonel . In front of the obelisk is the statue of Motherland, to which wreaths are laid during ceremonies. On the base of the statue, made of black porphyry , 42 bronze plates with the names of the fallen officers. The total area of the memorial is about 30 thousand m². The burials continued until the very opening of the memorial (from hospitals).
Due to the general deterioration of the monument in 2011-2013, its full restoration was carried out.
