Arievye ( lat. Ariidae ) - a family of ray-finned fish from the catfish order. They live mainly in coastal (up to a depth of 100 m) tropical, subtropical and temperate waters of the World Ocean . Many species enter desalinated estuaries and estuaries, and some species live exclusively in fresh water. Lead a solitary or flock lifestyle. Males have caviar in their mouths.

The caudal fin is strongly forked, there is a fat fin, in the anal fin there are 14-40 soft rays. The first rays of the dorsal and pectoral fins are a spine, often poisonous. Usykov usually three pairs, rarely two [1] .
