Biography
Benson studied at Eton College and in England. At the University of Cambridge, he belonged to the best athletes among his peers. He was then a colonial officer and spent many years in the African bush studying avifauna there. Over time, he became one of the most competent experts on East African avifauna, in particular, the Comoros. His first scientific descriptions and discoveries include Ploceus ruweti , Hirundo megaensis , Oreophilais robertsi , Nesillas aldabrana , Nesillas mariae , Otus mayottensis and Otus pauliani .
Eponyms
- Benson's stone thrush ( Monticola bensoni ) was named after him.
Proceedings
