HMS Britannia (1820)

HMS Britannia ( Her Majesty's Ship "Britain" ) - 120-gun 1st rank . Laid down in 1813 at the Royal Shipyard in Devonport. Launched on October 20, 1820 [1] .

Content

History

It was commissioned in 1823, served in the Mediterranean Sea from 1831 to 1841. In 1843 it was withdrawn to the reserve. He continued his service during the Crimean War as the flagship of Admiral Sir James Whitney Dundas , commander of the British fleet in the Mediterranean and Black Seas from 1851 to 1854.

He returned to England in early 1855 and in the same year became a hospital ship in Portsmouth , then a training ship in 1859. In 1862 he was transferred to Portland , then to Dartmouth in 1863.

Dismantled in 1869 [1] . In its place in Dartmouth stood HMS Prince of Wales , which in turn was renamed "Britain".
