Altai Krai has all types of transport: automobile, aviation, rail and water.

Road Transport
The length of public roads in the region is 16691 km (including federal - 627 km). According to this indicator, Altai Krai takes the third place in Russia and the first in the Siberian Federal District . Of the total length of roads:
- 181.4 km - have a cement concrete coating;
- 7907.5 km - asphalt;
- 6500.8 - crushed stone;
- 2102.7 km - dirt roads.
All regional centers are connected to Barnaul by paved roads. On the roads of the region there are 836 bridge structures with a length of 31239 m and 7084 pieces of culverts with a length of over 112 km.
The basis of the region’s transport infrastructure is made up of the M52 Chuysky Tract federal roads with access to Barnaul and A349 Barnaul - Rubtsovsk - the border of Kazakhstan . Also along the territory of the region are the federal highway Novosibirsk - Biysk - the border with Mongolia, regional highways P366 (Biysk - Novokuznetsk), P367 (Martynovo - Zalesovo), P368 (Biysk - Belokurikha), P369 (Biysk - Altayskoye - Cherga), P370 ( Pospelikha - Kurya - Zmeinogorsk - Tretyakovo), P371 (Aleysk - Rodino - Kulunda - the state border with the Republic of Kazakhstan), P372 (Rodino - Blagoveshchenka), P374 (Beloyarsk - Zarinsk), P375 (Biysk - Artybash), P380 (Novosibirsk - Kamen -on-Ob-Barnaul), the Altai-Kuzbass highway, built in the beginning e 2000s .
In accordance with the program for the development of roads in the Altai Territory, it is planned to increase transport capacity by 2025 by increasing the share of roads of technical categories I and II during reconstruction and construction of bypasses in the cities of Barnaul, Biysk , and Rubtsovsk; ensuring transport accessibility to the special economic zone of tourist-recreational type " Turquoise Katun " and the gambling zone "Siberian Coin".
Over the past five years, more than 1,500 km of roads, more than 6,300 m of bridges and overpasses have been built, reconstructed, and repaired, including rough surface treatment for more than 5,000 km of roads.
In the region, a public-private partnership system is being implemented in the construction of roads. On this basis, the construction of the highway “ Zmeinogorsk -Rubtsovsk- Mikhailovka - Slavgorod - Karasuk ” has begun.
Road workers of the Altai Territory are working on the construction and reconstruction of facilities of strategic importance and providing access to neighboring states and constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
When planning spending, first of all, the issues of improving road safety and reducing accident rate on roads are addressed. More than 300 million rubles are spent annually for these purposes [1] .
Air Transport
At present, the Altai Territory has the only operating airport - Barnaul International Airport. German Titov , carrying out air communication with 30 cities in other regions of the country and abroad. Other aerodromes, including Biysk , do not accept passenger aircraft and are used only from time to time.
The airports of Barnaul and Biysk need reconstruction, the money for which the authorities of the Altai Territory expect to receive from the federal budget. However, until 2015, funding for these projects is not provided. It is assumed that the return of Biysk airport to operation will have a significant impact on the development of the Turquoise Katun tourist zone [2] .
Rail Transport
Railways of the Altai Territory are part of the West Siberian Railway . Altai Railway was built in 1915 .
The total length of Altai railways is 1803 km, and 866 km are railways of industrial enterprises. In the pre-revolutionary period, the Barnaul - Semipalatinsk lines operated for about 650 km. Prior to 1945, the highways Slavgorod - Kulunda - Pavlodar and Lokot - Ust-Kamenogorsk were built , in the postwar years - sections of the South Siberian (Kulunda - Barnaul - Artyshta ) and Central Siberian ( Barnaul - Kamen na Obi - Karasuk ) directions [3] .
The longest line of the region is Novosibirsk - Barnaul - Semipalatinsk , along which transit cargo is transported from the eastern regions of the country to Central Asia . Transit flows of goods to the western regions go along the South Siberian Railway . The largest railway stations: Altai , Barnaul , Biysk , Kulunda , Rubtsovsk , Aleyskaya .
Until 2020, Russian Railways plans to launch a high-speed railway between Barnaul and Novosibirsk [4] .
River transport
The total length of shipping lines is about 650 km. A sixth part of the territory of the region with a population of about 1 million people is located in the water transport service zone. Shipping is developed along the rivers Ob , Biya , Katun , Chumysh , Charysh . The main cargo category is grain , building materials , timber , coal . Specialized marinas and river stations operate on the rivers.
City public transport
Passenger public transport serves 78% of all settlements. Trams and trolleybuses operate in Barnaul (see Barnaul Tram , Barnaul Trolleybus ), Biysk (see Biysk Tram ), Rubtsovsk (see Rubtsovskiy trolley ). 12.5 thousand ( 2006 ) enterprises operate on the road transportation market, which provide 886 routes: 220 of them are urban, 272 are suburban and 309 are intercity. In addition, there are 8 bus stations and 47 passenger bus stations in the region.
By 2013, all passenger transport in the Altai Territory should be equipped with the GLONASS system . Automated dispatch control has already been introduced in passenger transport in Barnaul, and by the end of 2012, the entire fleet of vehicles should be equipped with devices [5] .
