Hugo Moser ( German: Hugo Moser ; June 19, 1909 , Esslingen am Neckar - March 22, 1989 , Bonn ) is a German philologist and Germanist . Creator of several German organizations, honorary doctor of a number of European universities.

Biography
Hugo was born in Esslingen in the family of a postal clerk in 1909 . Father - Leonard Emmert - died before the birth of the future philologist. Mother - Louise Moser - worked as a cook. Hugo attended a gymnasium in Esslingen, studied philosophy , German studies , romance and Anglistics in Tübingen . After a trip abroad, he received a Ph.D. In 1932 at the Sorbonne Hugo was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy . Subsequently, he worked in Stuttgart as a teacher in the gymnasium and the Higher School of Commerce.
During World War II, Moser was called up for service and was even captured. He was not rehabilitated until 1947 in Tübingen with the support of Hermann Schneider . In the same year he began to teach at the University of Stuttgart, in 1954 he received the title of professor at the University of Nimwegen . Since 1956 he has been working at the University of Saarbrücken , since 1959 - in Bonn . At the University of Bonn in 1963 - 1964 he served as rector .
Contribution to the Development of German Germanism
From 1962 to 1964 he was the head of the German Union of Germanists . In 1986, Moser and his wife Hildegard founded the Hugo Moser Foundation, which supports young Germanists. From the fund every two years, research awards in the field of German studies are allocated. Moser for a long time led the German Language Institute in Mannheim , which was founded with his participation. He has co-authored numerous Germanic journals, among which the Germanistik, Wirkendes Wort , Leo Weisgerber and Zeitschrift für deutsche Philologie . He was also the editor of Helmut Tervooren 's Des Minnesangs Frühling.
For his activities in 1964, Moser was awarded , in 1975 he was awarded the Order of Merit for the Federal Republic of Germany , in 1986 - the Order of the Land of Baden-Württemberg . He was an Honorary Doctor of the Universities of Innsbruck , Lund and Jyväskylä and a corresponding member of the Academies of Sciences in Lund and Ghent .
