At first she studied in Lublin , then at a female school in Warsaw , and then she and her sister graduated from the Pulawy Institute of Noble Maidens. After graduation, she lived in Lublin, actively participating in many religious and patriotic events. In 1861, she was sentenced to prison for participating in one of the demonstrations.

Her name appeared in police documents after anti-government demonstrations in the fall of 1861 in Zhitomir , where her parents temporarily resided. [one]

She is best known for her participation in the Polish uprising of 1863-1864 , when, having disguised herself as a man and taking the name Mikhail Smok, she fought under the command of Marian Langevich .

After captivity on November 26, 1863, she was exiled to the Vologda province , but in 1867 was granted amnesty.

After liberation, emigrated first to Prague , then to Switzerland ; in 1870 she moved to Paris , where she took an active part in the Franco-Prussian War and the Paris Commune as a military nurse, including fighting on barricades; For participation in the Franco-Prussian war she was awarded the Cross "For Merit". After the suppression of the Paris Commune, she was arrested, but then was released thanks to the intervention of the international " Red Cross ". She lived in Paris until the end of her life; she died in a dream of a heart attack.
