Career
At 6 years old, Vos began to engage in road cycling, after 2 years she began to participate in races. Then she also started cycling, and even later, mountain biking . Marianna more than once climbed the podium of the junior races, first achieving major successes in the cycling race. In 2004, she won the world championship among juniors in the group race, the next season she became the champion of the Netherlands in the same discipline and mountain bike. In 2006, Vos signed a contract with Rabobank Women , and in the debut season she achieved impressive results: she won the adult world championships in the group race and cycling. Then, for the first time, she won the Netherlands Championship in the group race, which she also managed to do in 2009-2011. In 2007, Vos was the most successful athlete, winning the World Cup . For 6 years she has four times excelled in this ranking. In the spring, Marianne won her first classic cycling race, the female Flash Valon , which she later succeeded more than once. In the same season, she first won the silver medal of the World Championship in the group race, which marked the beginning of a unique series: 5 second places in a row in this race.
In March 2008, Vos won the points race at the World Cup . At the Beijing Olympics, she again won this race (due to the range of distance advantage), while on the highway she became only the 6th . In 2009, Marianne for the second time became the world champion in cycling, and from that moment holds the title. In 2011, when the only female Grand Tour was the Giro d'Italia , Vos won the race. A year later, she repeated this success, and again won 5 stages. At the London Olympics, the Dutchwoman won the group race , defeating Lizzy Armisted and Olga Zabelinskaya from the gap. After 2 months, Vos completed the sad series for her, for the second time becoming the world champion on the highway . At the same time, another series continues: from the debut in the professional, Marianne did not fall below 2nd place at the world championships in the group race.
