History
Attempts to implement bilingual education systems for young children prior to use in Germany were made in Canada and in some European countries whose indigenous languages are endangered . Such a project, for example, is the Breton Diwan in France . Based on the experience of other countries, the organizers of the Witaj project began its work on March 1, 1998 in one of the Cottbus districts - Zilou ( German Sielow ), where the first group of 12 children was recruited in kindergarten. Teaching Serbouzhitsky languages in groups working on this program is carried out by immersion into the language environment, in which the caregiver communicates with children only in Serbouzhitsky. Many of the participants in the program then study in elementary schools, in which most subjects are taught in the Serbian language language. One of the first participants of the Witaj project in 2006 entered the Niedersorbische Gymnasium, a Cottbus Nizhneluzhitsk gymnasium .
Current position
By 2009 in Brandenburg and Saxony, there were 5 kindergartens working under the program Witaj [1] :
- Mato Rizo kindergarten in Cottbus (Zilou) (Brandenburg) - 55 children;
- Kindergarten Villa Kunterbunt in Kotbus (Brandenburg) - 68 children;
- Kindergarten "Milenka" in Rhone (Saxony) - 35 children;
- Kindergarten "Pumpot" in Hoyerswerda (Saxony) - 26 children;
- Kindergarten in Malschwitz (Saxony) - 39 children;
In addition, following the example of kindergartens-Witaj, separate groups-Witaj were created in German-speaking kindergartens — 11 in Saxony and 8 in Brandenburg [2] . Unlike the rest of the Serbian-kindergartens, children enrolled in the Witaj program are brought from mixed German-Luzhk or fully German-speaking families.
Materials on the project are published in the magazine " Serbska šula ".
