In 1465, the second residence of the Lutsk bishops was the village of Porokhovo, which belonged to the Lutsk diocese . The village was transformed into a city and renamed Yanovo (now Ivanovo), in honor of Bishop Lutsk John (Jan) Lasovich ( Polish Jan Łesowicz [5] ) [2] [3] , whose family coat of arms was used as the coat of arms of the city . In the 90s of the XX century, the coat of arms " Rozmyar " ( Polish. Rozmiar ) was sometimes used in the media as applied to Ivanovo .

In 1998-2000, Andrei Shpunt ( Belorussian. Andrei Shpunt ), a specialist in the State Heraldry Service of the Republic of Belarus, developed four new versions of the image of the coat of arms of Ivanovo. The central figures in all the drawings were objects of religious paraphernalia ( “a golden bishop's miter with two fringed ribbons on the back, below two crossed golden sticks ” ). According to the author, these objects were supposed to indicate the historical features of the city. In three versions, the image of the Polish coat of arms “Rosmear” was used, and in one, the image of the Knight's Cross . Another difference was the color of the shield field (azure or scarlet ). The first of these colors had a neutral value, and the second could symbolize "the blood of St. Andrei Boboli , tortured by the Cossacks in Yanovo during the war of the middle of the XVII century. Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth with the Moscow State ” [4] . These projects have not been approved.

On March 22, 2011, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko ( Belorussian Alyaksander Lukashenko ) [2] signed a decree “On the establishment of official heraldic symbols of the administrative-territorial units of the Brest Region”, in accordance with which the coat of arms and flag of the capital of the Ivanovo region were established and adopted provisions on these symbols [1] .

The officially approved symbols of Ivanov, as in the case of many emblems and flags of other settlements of the republic, reflected the Christian heritage. In particular, the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin was chosen as one of the main elements of the Ivanovo coat of arms, which put it on a par, for example, with the coat of arms of Slavgorod , in which there was an image of the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, or the coat of arms of Chernavchits , which depicted the facade Trinity Church [6] .

The city of Ivanovo for a long time had an unofficial emblem, which had slight differences from the modern one .
