Golden shell

The Golden Shell ( Spanish: Concha de Oro ) is the main award of the San Sebastian Film Festival . It has been awarded since 1953, the current name was received in 1957 in honor of the local La Concha beach (“Shell”; before that, the main prize was called the “Big Prize” and “ Silver Shell ”). In 1980-1984, instead of a conch, the "Big Prize of Foreign Criticism" was awarded.

Five directors received the award twice: Francis Ford Coppola , Manuel Gutierrez Aragon , Imanol Uribe , Arturo Ripshtein and Bachman Gobadi . Most of the recipients are men, with the exception of women Diana Curie , Yesim Ustaoglu and Mariana Rondon . Films in Russian won the prize three times - in 1976, 1977 and 1979. The Honorary Shell was awarded twice: to Louis Bunuel in 1981 and to Carlos Saur in 2007. In September 2012, the 60th anniversary of the cinema festival was held in San Sebastian.
