Field of the Poltava battle

The State Historical and Cultural Reserve "The Field of Poltava Battle" ( Ukrainian State Historical and Cultural Reserve "Field of the Battle of Poltava" ) is the largest cultural scientific and methodological center dedicated to the Battle of Poltava and the history of the Great Northern War participating countries.

Content

History

In 1909, on the initiative of the history teacher of the Poltava Cadet Corps Ivan Frantsevich Pavlovsky , a museum was opened on the battlefield. In 1981, the Museum of the History of the Battle of Poltava and the complex of monuments associated with the battle were declared the state historical and cultural reserve “Field of the Battle of Poltava”. The total area of ​​the reserve was 771.5 hectares.

In 1994, the exhibition "Cossack Power" appeared in the museum, dedicated to the Zaporizhzhya Cossacks, who fought both on the side of the Russian troops, and on the side of the Swedish. The reserve was later included in the register of ICOMAM (International Committee for Museums of Arms and Military History) - the International Organization of Military History Museums under the auspices of UNESCO .

Composition of the reserve

The reserve includes the following cultural monuments:

  • Museum of the History of the Battle of Poltava (1909) and a monument to Peter I (1915)
  • Ten granite obelisks in place of redoubts (1939)
  • Monuments to Swedish troops erected by Russians and Swedes (1909)
  • Monument at the Vorskla River Crossing Point (1959)
  • Memorial sign at the site of the command post of Peter I (1973)
  • Mass grave of Russian soldiers (1894)
  • Sampson Church (1852-1856, reconstructed in 1895)
  • Monument to Peter I in front of the Museum of the History of the Battle of Poltava
  • Monument to the defenders of the Poltava fortress and its commandant Alexei Kelin (1909)
  • Monument of Glory (1811)
  • Monument on the resting place of Peter I (1849)
  • Spasskaya Church (1705-1706, reconstructed in 1845)
  • Holy Cross Monastery (1650)
  • Monument to the Cossacks (1994)

Museum of History

The Museum of History stores exhibits from the time of the war from Russia, from Ukraine , from Sweden , Turkey , Poland and Denmark . In nine exhibition halls, priceless historical relics are presented: cold steel and firearms, medals, coins, paintings, portraits, icons, prints, banners, uniforms, rare books, maps, letters and other historical sources of the war.
