Signs
The essence of this phenomenon in flowering plants is that when the bud opens, it rotates around the horizontal axis by 180 °, in some cases by 360 °. [1] Resupinition is characteristic of the flowers and leaves of some families of flowering plants. Also known is resorption in fungi.
Examples
Flower resupination is known in the Orchid , Gesnerius and some other families. The genera Bomarea and Alstroemeria are sometimes characterized by leaf resorption .
Flower resupination is a constant property of the species and is one of the classification features. For example, the genus Nemantanthus of the Gesneriaceae family is subdivided into 4 categories: the type of flower and the presence or absence of the phenomenon of resuption. [2]
Flower resupination is one of the main characteristics of the Acampe genera, which distinguishes them from the Aerides and Vanda genera [3]
In Orchids and other families, this property is due to the shape of the flower, pollination methods and different types of pollinators - insects and birds.
