The European stage of the FIA WTCC 2008 is the ninth stage of the 2008 season . The racing day was held at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit in the Italian province of Bologna on September 21 .

For the first time, the WTCC conducts a separate European stage as part of its calendar. Before that, all competitions were tied to smaller territories.

General Information
In the camp of SEAT Sport , Ivan Muller and Ricard Rüdell had the best Imoli weekend. The Frenchman and the Swede for a couple were leading both in qualifying and in the first race, and in the second they made their way to the fifth and sixth places. In the speed competition, Ricard was stronger, and Ivan was a little faster in the contact struggle both times. The main rival of the Frenchman in the championship - teammate Gabriele Tarquini qualified only sixth, in the first race he played one position, and in the second he fell into the dam in the first round and had to go. Due to a similar difference in the results, the gap between No. 11 and No. 12 in the championship has grown from two to twelve points.
BMW pilots all weekend were inferior in speed to competitors from SEAT and Chevrolet , taking positions at the end of the top ten. According to the results of the first race, the first row of the second race led only to the local success of Jörg Muller - the German came to the first in five races podium. Launched second in that race, Augusto Farfus didn’t express himself and rolled back to eighth place by the finish line. Who was on the eve of the third stage in the individual standings Andy Priol in Imola scored only two points, dropping to fifth place in the championship.
In the camp of Chevrolet once again had a good qualification, showing the third and fourth time, but in the race the pilots of the American brand were slightly less noticeable - Robert Huff finished twice in the area of the podium positions; Nicola Larini was a little slower, but also confidently scored credits twice; Alain Menu was unable to realize his speed in the results, getting off in the first race.
Against the backdrop of a very unfortunate season, James Thompson spent a very strong weekend. Honda, under the management of the British, fought on an equal footing with the leaders all weekend and first earned the first podium of the season, and then won the first victory from last year’s Spanish stage .
In the camp of private traders, unconditionally the strongest was Sergio Hernandez , who won both the qualification and both races. Behind him both times finished Pierre-Yves Kortal and Franz Engstler .
