Biography
Born in the Kumyk village of Andyrai in the family of the hereditary paramount Uzden , lieutenant colonel, chief bailiff of the Mohammedan peoples of the Stavropol province Davlet-Mirza Sheikh Ali, who in 1848 published in Kavkaz newspaper his main work on the history and ethnography of the Kumyk people, entitled “Story Kumyk about Kumyks. " In 1862, after completing the course in the 2nd St. Petersburg Cadet Corps, he entered military service. With the outbreak of the Russo-Turkish war in 1877, Lieutenant Colonel Ali Sheikhaliev, the commander of the Orenburg Cossack Regiment, participated in the battles, during the capture of the Oryol Heights, in the same year in the battles on the Aladzhin Heights, during the blockade of the city of Kars and on November 6 in the storming of this fortress city. In the winter of 1878-1879, his regiment distinguished itself during the blockade of the city of Erzurum . The regiment returned from the army in November 1878. After retiring with the rank of Major General, he lived in St. Petersburg (at 54 Nevsky Prospect), was engaged in social activities. [1] .
Since 1901, an active participant in the St. Petersburg Muslim Educational Society. One of the initiators of the creation of a shelter for Muslim children in a society, a school was also created under his tutelage for the initial training of children in native and Russian grammar. His name is often featured in Muslim newspapers published at the beginning of the century in St. Petersburg , Kazan , Orenburg . He was a rather famous person in secular circles. [2] . In 1914, he was one of the founders of the Muslim newspaper Nur (Svet), its chief editor, publicist, and publisher. Together with the doctor of theology Muhammad-Safa Bayazitov , a merchant Fatih Bayrashev, Sheikhaliyev D. established the political party “Syrat al-Mustakim” (“The Right Way”).
Sheikhaliev is one of the initiators of the construction of the cathedral mosque in St. Petersburg. By 1917, he was a member of the committee for the construction of this mosque [3] .

- Wife - Ummu Gulsum Seid Gireyevna (nee Tevkelev), a native of the Ufa province . Had 2 sons.
