Corset , corset or corset master ( fr. Corsetier, corsetière ) - the profession of a master in the production of corsets .
The craft has existed since the 16th century ; very quickly organized in a separate workshop . At first it remained purely masculine, women were allowed to manufacture corsets only from 1675 . Initially, whalebone records ( Corps à baleines ) were used when sewing corsets. The Encyclopedia of D'Alembert and Diderot devoted an entire article to corset production techniques, with drawings and various models.
