Biography
Descendant of the ancient Chorbadzhi (privileged layer associated with the Turkish authorities) kind from Vidin .
The son of a literary critic and ethnographer , politician Ivan Shishmanov and journalist Liliya Shishmanova. Grandson (by mother) of Mikhail Drahomanov , an outstanding Ukrainian scientist, publicist, historian, public figure, founder of Ukrainian socialism,
After graduating from the gymnasium in Sofia in 1907, he studied law at the University of Geneva until 1913.
Then he worked as an official in the judicial system of Bulgaria. From 1919 to 1932 - head of the Registration Commission, in 1932-1935 - head of the judicial and administrative department of the Ministry of the Interior.
Since 1935 - at diplomatic work: Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Bulgaria to Greece (1935-1940), in 1940-1943 - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
He was a supporter of the alliance of Bulgaria with the Third Reich and the Nazi convinced. October 14, 1943 he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria [1] , in 1943-1944 in the government of Dobri Bozhilov .
After the uprising of September 9, 1944 , as a result of which the government of the Patriotic Front came to power and Bulgaria took the side of the Anti-Hitler coalition , Dimitar Shishmanov was arrested and sentenced to death by the People’s Court. February 1, 1945 - executed.
On August 26, 1996, he was posthumously rehabilitated.
Creativity
He is the author of a number of dramatic and prosaic works, including the novel Highlife and the diaries Pisma to Samia Men.
He published several articles on Ukrainian literature, with his support in Sofia since 1919 the journal "Ukrainian-Bulgarian Review" was published.
One of the best translators from French, German and Ukrainian.
He translated into Bulgarian from Ukrainian works by M. Kotsyubinsky , I. Franko , A. Olesya and others.
