Official, cultural and sports events of the VI World Festival of Youth and Students , held in Moscow from July 28 to August 11, 1957 [1] .
Content
Day 1 (July 28)
Festival opening:
- Solemn procession from the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition to the Luzhniki Stadium .
- At the Central Stadium. V.I. Lenin , speeches were made by representatives of different countries. From the Soviet Union, the youth of the world was greeted by the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR K. E. Voroshilov [2] .
- At the opening ceremony were Soviet athletes: 3200 boys and girls [3] from the society " Labor Reserves ", Leningrad Institute. Lesgaft and the Moscow Institute of Physical Culture . The ceremony of the dance suite “ Blossom, Our Youth ” with the participation of amateur creative groups of the Union republics ended.
2nd day (July 29th)
- Opening of the International Student Club at Moscow State University .
- In the morning, the grand opening of international art competitions in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and in the Hall of Columns . In the Hall of Columns, a speech was made by a member of the International Committee of the festival, Hector del Campo Silva ( Spanish: Hector del Campo Silva ), in the conservatory - Secretary General of the World Federation of Democratic Youth Jacques Denis [2] .
- At 11.00 in the Library. V.I. Lenin opened a philatelic exhibition (400 stands with stamps from various countries were presented) [2] .
- Opening of the International Exhibition of Art Photography in the Moscow House of Artists on Kuznetsky Most . Representatives of about 30 countries took part in it [2] .
- In the evening, the opening of the International Meetings Club at No. 4 on Pushechnaya Street .
- Gala concert of the Soviet delegation at the Central Theater of the Soviet Army .
- Bulgarian youth concert in Sokolniki park .
- A concert of youth of Egypt and Romania in the Central Park of Culture and Rest named after Gorky .
- Yugoslavian Youth Concert in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory Tchaikovsky .
- Concerts of the delegations of Hungary , India , Czechoslovakia on the venues VSHV .
- The international concert of the delegates of Hungary , Cyprus , North Korea and Uruguay in the morning on the stage of Pushkin Square , in the evening, art groups and performers from Germany , Spain , Jordan , North Korea and the USSR performed.
- The performance of the Romanian Puppet Theater " Tsenderique " ( rum. Ţăndărică ).

- Representatives of the Finnish youth delegation visited workers at the Caliber plant, and young French chemists visited the Kauchuk plant.

3rd day (July 30th)
- Opening of the International Exhibition of Fine and Applied Art in the Central Park of Culture and Rest named after Gorky .
- The beginning of sports competitions. Athletes, tennis players and volleyball players performed at Moscow stadiums.
- An international film festival has opened in the Udarnik movie theater. His program featured more than 180 films [4] ) created by young filmmakers from more than 30 countries [5] .
- An evening dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the First World Festival of Youth and Students took place at the club on Bersenevskaya Embankment .
- A meeting was held at the International Meetings Club dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the publication in Amsterdam of the works of Jan Amos Comenius .
- Meetings by professions and hobbies opened. At VSHV there was an exchange of experience of young peasants, farmers and tenants. In the House of Scientists , amateur photographers met, in the Polytechnic Museum - amateur radio enthusiasts, in the Architect's House - amateur movie enthusiasts, in the Central Chkalov Aero Club - aircraft models.
- In the branch of the Maly Theater a concert of delegates from Bulgaria .
- In the club "Ray" - a concert of youth of Great Britain .
- Finnish artists performed at the Satire Theater .
- A large international concert with the participation of young people from Belgium , India , Morocco , Czechoslovakia in the Central Park of Culture and Rest. Gorky .
- More than 40 [4] international and national concerts took place in clubs, palaces of culture and open stages.
- In the Sokolniki park, delegates from Argentina , East Africa , the Netherlands and France showed their creativity.
- At MSU , international seminars were opened for students of agricultural, cinematic and economic educational institutions.
- In theaters, dramatic artists from China , Sweden and Chile demonstrated their art.
- The meeting of the delegates of Bulgaria and the United Kingdom was attended by about 300 delegates. An impromptu concert of the choir of Bulgarian girls and the English brass band took place [4] .
4th day (July 31)
- At the stadium " Dynamo " was a big circus performance
- The exchange of experiences of young young peasants, farmers and tenants, as well as miners and leather workers continued. A meeting of young railway workers and polygraphists opened. At meetings on interests again came film, photo and radio amateurs. Heads of children's institutions in several countries discussed education.
- The solemn national programs of the DPRK , Poland , Germany and Yugoslavia were shown.
- Young performers from Hungary , Great Britain , Italy , China , Mongolia , Romania , Czechoslovakia , East Germany , Bulgaria , Spain , the USSR , Sweden , the Netherlands , Indonesia , Paraguay , Mexico , Norway , Finland performed national concerts on Moscow stages, in parks and theaters, France , Albania , Egypt , Madagascar .
- Continued international art competitions. Young performers competed in playing the piano, bowed, wind and folk instruments, singing and dancing.
- An amateur concert of Chile , West Africa , Hungary , Spain , Syria and other countries took place at the International Student Club. A large program was performed by the Leningrad Pop Orchestra.
- For the participants of the festival, Moscow theaters showed several performances.
- Representatives of various youth organizations gathered in the International Meeting Club in the morning and discussed issues of cooperation and protecting the interests of youth.
- In Zagorsk , in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra , young Christians met [5] .
- A meeting of the American and Chinese delegations took place at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition . In conclusion, an impromptu concert was held. At first, the Chinese girls sang several songs to the accompaniment of a small orchestra, and then American jazz performed [5] .
- Before the metallurgists of the Hammer and Sickle factory, members of the Ukrainian art group spoke. Delegates from Finland , India , Great Britain , France , Syria , Germany , Morocco also arrived at the plant.
- Volleyball players met at the summer venues of Dynamo Stadium. The Italian team beat Austria 3-0 [5] . Basketball players from France , Belgium , Albania , the USSR and other countries competed in Sokolniki .
Day 5 (August 1)
- In Khimki, Moscow youth, along with the guests, took part in the bookmark “ Friendship Park ” [6] .
- The solemn national programs of the GDR (at the Theater of the Soviet Army ), Egypt (at the Vakhtangov Theater ), Romania (at the Bolshoi Theater branch) and Finland (at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theater ) were shown .
- Artistic youth from Great Britain , the Netherlands , China , Albania , Mongolia , Vietnam , Indonesia , Norway , Bulgaria , Belgium , Denmark , Iceland , Spain , Canada , Cyprus , North Korea , Tunisia , Czechoslovakia , France , Yugoslavia , the USSR and others performed national concerts. countries.
- International art competitions continued in the Large and Small Halls of the Moscow Conservatory , the October Hall of the House of Unions , the Central House of Artists , the Lenin Komsomol Theater , the Moscow State University Club, the Cinema House , and Concert Hall named after Tchaikovsky .
- A meeting of young textile workers opened under the motto “ Live and work in peace and friendship ” [6] . Young peasants, farmers and tenants, graphic artists and miners held closing sessions on the exchange of experience.
- International art contests continued (wind instruments, popular songs, classical singing, etc.)
- At the International Student Club, a meeting of delegates with famous mathematicians was held on the topic " Mathematics and its latest application ." Presentations were made by academicians S. L. Sobolev and N. N. Bogolyubov , who spoke about the problems of machine mathematics, about the technology of the future [6] .
- Workers of the shoe and leather industry of Italy , France , Czechoslovakia , East Germany , Finland , Hungary , Bulgaria , Mongolia came to visit the shoe makers of the Paris Commune factory. The guests visited the workshops, talked with the workers. A rally was held in the courtyard of the factory.
- In the garden of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition, the Finnish delegation received guests from Poland .
- An international seminar of law students has opened. The meeting was opened by the Secretary of the International Union of Students Alexander Yankov . On behalf of Soviet students and legal teachers of the seminar participants, dean of the law faculty of Moscow State University D. S. Karev . The first day was devoted to a discussion of the principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter [6] .
- Competitions in basketball , freestyle wrestling , swimming, table tennis and others took place.
- At 10 o'clock the cycling race on the Kurkinskaya ring road was launched. The best time was shown by the athletes of the Leningrad Textile Institute , who covered 99.2 km in 2 hours 31 minutes 58 seconds [6] .
Day 6 (August 2)
- The central event was an evening of solidarity with the youth of the colonial countries in Ostankino Park
- The delegates of Bulgaria , Great Britain , Italy , Black Africa and other countries discussed the problems of vocational education. The deputy director of the Moscow Technical University No. 9 Solovyov introduced them to the history of the development of educational institutions of labor reserves [7] .
- The show of solemn national programs continued: at the Theater named after Vakhtangov performed by young artists of Albania , in the branch of the Bolshoi Theater - artists of Bulgaria , in the Theater. Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko - artists of Italy , in the Central Children's Theater - artists of Vietnam .
- An international seminar of student philologists has opened. The audience was welcomed by the writer Konstantin Fedin [7] . The main topic of discussion was tradition and innovation in literature.
- A meeting of young journalists has opened in the Central House of Journalists , which brought together representatives of newspapers, radio and television companies of various directions.
- A meeting of artists of the Arab countries and the USSR . The guests visited the exhibition of works by the artist-polar explorer Igor Ruban [7] .
- National concerts of young performers from China , Great Britain , Czechoslovakia , Romania , the Netherlands , France , Hungary , Mexico and other countries continued.
7th day (August 3)
- In the Kremlin, the Ball of Participants took place, at which thousands of young men and women had fun until late at night [8] .
- At the Dynamo stadium, masters of Soviet ballet performed, including Alla Osipenko and Alexander Gribov [8] .
- At the House of Scientists, a meeting of young people from the countries of the Arab East .
- An international seminar was opened with the participation of about three hundred students of technical universities. Presentations were made by Soviet professors T. L. Zolotarev and G. A. Shaumyan , professor from China Shi Ji-yang [8] and others.
- Meetings of young teachers, dockers, postal, telegraph and telephone employees, agricultural workers, builders, textile workers and journalists took place.
- Solemn national programs were shown by young performers of the RSFSR (at the Theater of the Soviet Army ), Mexico (at the Central Children's Theater ) and Japan (at the Vakhtangov Theater )
- Young people from China , Poland , Great Britain , France , Belgium , Switzerland , Algeria performed national concerts in clubs, theaters, and on stage.
- An international meeting club hosted an evening dedicated to the Swedish natural scientist Karl Linnaeus .
- More than 30 meetings of various delegations took place at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition
- At the seminar of filmmakers, an exchange of views took place on the problems of truth in art, the typical and random development of film technology. Summing up the competition of feature films, popular science films and chronicles during the seminar, Professor A. Brouzil , Honorary Chairman of the Jury, Rector of the Prague Academy of Musical Culture , noted the rapid growth of young cinema talents not only in Europe and America, but also in many Asian countries [8] .
- A group of Austrian delegates visited the Institute of Hururgy of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences , where they observed the operations carried out by professors A. A. Vishnevsky and N. I. Krakovsky [8] .
Day 8 (August 4)
- The second Ball of participants took place in the Kremlin, and at the Dynamo stadium, as before, ballet dancers performed. Scenes and fragments from the works of Russian and foreign composers were performed [9] .
- The art of the peoples of the East was shown by the delegations of Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Sudan, Tunisia and other Arab countries. The concerts of the French, Czechoslovak, Mongolian, and Dutch delegations took place [9] .
- An international seminar for students of architectural and construction educational institutions has opened in the House of Architects . The theme of the day is “City and Housing” [9] .
- The meeting of young teachers continued. Representatives of Great Britain, France, Japan, the USSR, the Netherlands, Hungary, Italy and a number of other countries took part in the discussion on the issues of education and upbringing of the younger generation, teacher training, teacher health and child health.
- The international meeting of artists that opened on that day was dedicated to discussing the importance of art in youth education, the problems of expanding and strengthening cultural ties between countries
Day 9 (August 5)
- In honor of the festival, the Soviet government held a gala reception, which was attended by about 4,000 people. The Soviet leadership was represented by N.S. Khrushchev , N.I. Belyaev , N.A. Bulganin , G.K. Zhukov , O.V. Kuusinen , A.I. Mikoyan , E.A. Furtseva , P.N. Pospelov , A.N. Kosygin , M.G. Pervukhin . On behalf of the Soviet youth, the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Komsomol A.N. Shelepin [10] .
- The day was dedicated to the girls of the world. Girls from many countries gathered in the Theater of the Soviet Army , the Central House of the Soviet Army and its park , where a ball and a concert took place.
- A memorial evening dedicated to the 900th anniversary of the death of the Syrian philosopher and poet Al-Maarri was held at the Central House of Arts [10]
- Meetings of young workers in the energy and electrical industries, forestry workers, as well as metallurgists and machine builders
- At 15 cinemas, films continued to be screened as part of the International Film Festival [10]
- Seminars of students of architectural and construction universities, as well as technical institutes, continued. A seminar of future educators ended. An international seminar for students on the peaceful uses of atomic energy has opened
- The International Student Cube began a discussion about the role of students in the fight against colonialism
Day 10 (August 6)
- A grand demonstration for peace and friendship took place on Manezhnaya Square and nearby streets [11]
- Continued and opened new meetings by profession. Young energy experts, food industry workers, sailors and fishermen shared their experiences. A meeting of metallurgists and machine builders was held at the Polytechnic Museum . A meeting of young chemists has opened in the House of Scientific and Technical Propaganda
- Painters, sculptors, graphic artists, art critics gathered at the Architect's House . Most young artists noted that " abstract art has no future, is alien and incomprehensible to the people" [11] .
- Soviet boys and girls met with Indian youth. Guests from Denmark visited the club of the Vladimir Ilyich factory visiting young workers of the enterprise
- In the Central House of Writers there were conversations, discussions about literature. At the book exhibition, about 1,500 books of Soviet writers were presented [11]
- The meeting on the song was attended by Japan, France, Germany, the USSR, Great Britain and other countries. The participants agreed to establish contacts between the choirs, exchanged notes and music publications
- More than 400 young men and women from different countries gathered to meet against the preparation of atomic war and "demanded a ban on atomic and hydrogen weapons" [11] . Demonstration of a Japanese film about Hiroshima
- About a hundred French girls visited the 85th kilometer of the Minsk highway , where a monument to Zoe Kosmodemyanskaya was installed and laid wreaths on it
Day 11 (August 7)
- Hundreds of young agricultural workers participated in an international evening at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition
- Students hosted a ball-carnival on the Lenin Hills [12]
- The creative conversation of young artists, begun the day before, continued. 27 speakers from 15 countries took part in the discussion [12]
- A seminar for students of philosophy was held at the International Student Club. On the question of whether it is possible to predict the development of human society, advocates of different directions spoke out. A meeting with writer Ilya Erenburg on the topic "Students and World Culture" [12]
