The Center for European Studies, IMEMO RAS, is one of the main scientific divisions of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences ( IMEMO RAS ), which is in the top thirty in the world and in the top ten in the Central Eastern Europe and the CIS [1] .

Content
History and modern tasks
The study of European countries has been one of the research tasks of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations since the foundation of this scientific organization in 1956. Among the first 12 IMEMO sectors, the Western European Sector and the British Empire Sector were created [2] . In the course of subsequent reorganizations, a Department of Western European Countries arose in IMEMO, which in 2001 was given the modern name [3] .
The staff of the Center for European Studies specialize in studying current trends in European integration and the EU’s position in the global economy, analyzing current economic and socio-political problems of individual European countries (Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Poland , Czech Republic, etc.), a study of Russian economic relations with European states. In addition, the staff of the Center for European Studies participate in the institute’s work on the European problems of IMEMO RAS [4] .

Famous European Scientists of the Center
Over the years, the Center for European Studies of IMEMO RAS and the scientific sectors that were part of it headed:
Yudanov, Yuri Ignatievich (1927-2004) - Doctor of Economics (1968), professor, founder of the scientific school of economics of small European countries, who trained many students in Russia and German-speaking countries of Europe. Peru, this specialist in the economics of Austria, Switzerland and Germany, as well as European direct investment, owns several monographs and over 200 scientific articles in Russian and German [9] ;
Shenaev, Vladimir Nikitovich (1929-2010) - Doctor of Economics (1975), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1997), Specialist in the field of money circulation, credit, finance, currency, capital and the functioning of a market economy, later Deputy Director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences [10] . He has written over 300 scientific works, including several monographs;
Kuznetsov, Viktor Ivanovich (1931-2003) - Doctor of Economics (1978), professor, specialist in French economics, author of fundamental works on state regulation of the economy and international economic relations [11] ;
Baranovsky, Vladimir Georgievich (born 1950) - Doctor of Historical Sciences (1985), Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2011), since 2011 Director of the Center for Situational Analysis of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The author of more than 230 scientific papers. He made a significant contribution to the theoretical understanding of the changes taking place in the system of international relations, the analysis of world development trends in the context of globalization, the study of international political processes on the European continent [12] ;
Khesin, Efim Samuilovich (born 1931) - Doctor of Economics (1979), professor, specialist in the UK economy and contemporary problems of the development of the world economy. Prepared over 30 candidates of sciences. Author of several monographs and about 200 scientific articles [13] ;
Gutnik, Vladimir Petrovich (1954-2009) - Doctor of Economics (2002), German economist, well-known researcher of European liberalism. He headed the Center for European Studies in 1997-2009. In the last years of his life, he was also the director of the Research Institute of Foreign Economic Relations and the head of the Department of World Economy at the Higher School of Economics. Author of several monographs and more than 150 scientific articles [14] .
Since 2009, the Center for European Studies has been headed by Doctor of Economics (2008), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (since 2011) Kuznetsov, Alexey Vladimirovich .
