Avshar ( Arm. Ավշար ) is a village in the Ararat region of Armenia . It was founded in 1831 .

Geography
The village is located 26 kilometers from Ararat , the height above sea level is 835 m.
Population
According to the Caucasus Statistical Committee, by 1879, 886 Azerbaijanis (indicated as “Tatars”) lived in the village of Avshar in the Erivan district of the Erivan province , according to Shia religion. Also in the village was a mosque [1] . According to the "Caucasian calendar" of 1912, 1,127 people lived in the village of Avshar, mainly Azerbaijanis indicated by the "Tatars" [2] .
According to the census on January 1, 2009, 5128 people lived in the village [3] .
Infrastructure
There is a school and a new medical center in Avshar; since 1965, a large winery has been operating in the village [4] .
