Valery Alekseevich Bykov (born December 19, 1938, Kuibyshev ) is a Soviet party and statesman, minister, as well as a Soviet and Russian scientist in the field of plant biotechnology, biomedical technology and the creation of herbal remedies. Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2013), RAMS (1997) and RAAS (2005), Doctor of Technical Sciences (1989), Professor (1991). Minister of Medical Industry of the USSR (1985-1991), member of the Central Committee of the CPSU (1986-1990)

Biography
In 1961 he graduated from the Kuibyshev Industrial Institute. V.V. Kuybysheva majoring in mechanical engineering for machines and apparatuses of chemical industries.
- 1961 - 1964 - assistant of the department "Machines and apparatuses of chemical production" alma mater.
- 1964 - 1967 - installation mechanic at the Kirishi Oil Refinery , Leningrad Region .
- 1967 - 1968 - inspector of the chemical department of the North-West District of the Gosgortekhnadzor of the USSR , Kirishi .
- 1968 - 1971 - Deputy Chief Mechanic at the Kirishi Oil Refinery.
- 1971 - 1976 - Director of the Kirishi Biochemical Plant.
- 1976 - 1979 - First Secretary of the Kirishi City Committee of the CPSU.
- 1979 - 1985 - head of the microbiological industry sector of the Chemical Industry Department of the Central Committee of the CPSU .
- 1985 - Head of the Main Directorate of Microbiological Industry under the USSR Council of Ministers.
- 1985 - 1989 - Minister of Medical and Microbiological Industry of the USSR.
- 1989 - 1991 - Minister of Medical Industry of the USSR.
- Since 1991, General Director of NPO VILAR ( All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants ) and Director of the Research Center for Biological Structures .
- At the same time, since 1995, he heads the Department of Biotechnology of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.
The main direction of scientific work is the theoretical justification and development of the fundamentals of biomedical technology. Currently, he is actively working in the field of metabolomics, nanobiomedical technologies, tissue reproduction and bioproduction, preservation of biostructures, as well as the creation of biotest systems.
Editor-in-chief of the scientific and practical journal “Issues of Biological, Medical and Pharmaceutical Chemistry”.
