Economics
On November 30, 2006, a special economic zone of the regional level of the Chaplyginskaya industrial-production type was established on the territory of the region, and therefore an industrial boom was expected in the Chaplyginsky district.
Great hopes of the region were associated with the unique mining and processing plant (GOK) "Ranova", built near the village of Urusovo. However, at the beginning of 2015, the mining and processing enterprise was practically not functioning (about three years). In 2011, the Austrian company "HAWLE" built a factory for the production of shut-off structures. Another new building is a plant for the production of polyethylene hoses for drip irrigation.
Transport
The Chaplyginskoye highway and the highway that goes to the Moscow - Volgograd highway pass through the district.
In Chaplygin there is a large railway junction - Ranenburg station.
