The first production of the play in the theater was carried out by Ivan Bersenev [1] in April 1941 two months before the start of World War II [2] . After the war, they returned to the production twice more: in 1955, Sofia Giatsintova performed her version of the play, in 1977 - Mark Zakharov and Yuri Makhaev .

Sergey Lukonin, who dreamed of studying at a tank school, receives such an invitation. In his native Saratov , his bride Varya, who soon became an actress, remains.
After a tank school, a young officer Lukonin goes to war in Spain , is captured, escapes, and is injured ...

1941 production
The play was brought to the theater by the young poet Konstantin Simonov . The character of his play Sergey Lukonin became close and dear to millions of Soviet people, incorporating the best features of the generation of the 1940s.
After the success of the play “A guy from our city”, Simonov’s name appeared on the theater posters: “Russian People”, “It Will Be That”, “Russian Question”, “Under the Chestnuts of Prague” and others.

1977 production
The third production of the play in the theater. The premiere took place on December 12, 1977 .
The performance contains verses by K. Simonov , M. Svetlov , I. Utkin , N. Otrada , M. Kulchitsky , S. Gudzenko .
In 1978, the television version of the play was recorded, an audio version of the play was released.
