The history of writing began in 1980, when Robert Ludlam (author of such spy detectives as The Matarese Dynasty or Cover-One ) introduced a new character in the literature - Jason Bourne. Most similar to James Bond , Jason was well received by the public with the release of his first book, Bourne Identity. Within ten years, two more books have been published: The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum.

The fourth book, The Bourne Legacy, was released 14 years later, thanks to a successful film adaptation with Matt Damon, and already co-authored with Eric Van Lustbader, who completed the novel after Robert's death in 2001. Three years later, Van Lustbader decides to continue the Ludlam affair and releases a new part of Bourne's Betrayal. After that, each year one new book is published: “The Bourne Sanction” in 2008, “The Bourne Deception” in 2009, “The Bourne Purpose” in 2010 ...
