Biography
Joseph Shchodro was born in 1813 .
He joined the cadet in 1831 , on January 1 , in the former 10th Egersky Regiment and after that took part in the suppression of the Polish insurrection.
In 1833, after the army infantry was transformed, Shchodro moved to the Galitsky Egersky regiment and on August 2 of the same year, he was promoted to warrior-junkers , and a year later to warrant officers.
In 1837, Shchodro was promoted to second lieutenant, and two years later, with the rank of lieutenant, he was temporarily dismissed from service due to a wound received in 1836 in a shootout with Austrian smugglers on the border of Kamenetz-Podolsk province , in Gusyatin , where he was struck in the chest with a rifle bullet remaining in the body.
In 1841, Shchodro was determined for the second time to serve in the Tiflis Egersky Regiment , with whom he took part in actions against the Highlanders in the coming years, and he was wounded several times in the head, chest and stomach, and in 1843 , wounded during Gergebil [2] , was held captive by the enemy for seven days. Although almost the entire Russian garrison of Gergebil was destroyed, lieutenant Shchodro was saved by the inhabitants of Akhalchi , with whom he stood in the village with a company of more than a year; they transferred him to Chirkat , from where he was soon exchanged for one murid [3] . He commanded the 8th Eger company of the Tiflis regiment [4] . Finally, on July 4, 1847, during the storming of the fortified village of Gergebili, Shchedro was bruised with stones in the chest and contused by two bullets. Brave and selfless service Schodro was repeatedly awarded distinction: he had the Order of St. Anne 3rd degree with a bow, St. Vladimir of the 4th degree with a bow and a golden dagger with the inscription "For Bravery" .
