The East Berge dialect ( German Ostbergisch ) is a designation of numerous Nizhne - Frank dialects of the Berg land in North Rhine-Westphalia . In the east it borders on the Westphalian dialect space . East Berg is considered to be transitional and combines the dialectic features of South Nizhne-Frankish , Cleverland and Westphalian.

The similarities of East Berg and Cleverland and the nature of their interaction in the west of the dialect region make it possible to attribute it to the “ Dutch variant ”. Dialect carriers identify themselves as carriers of the Berg or Plat dialect.
Distribution
The dialect is widespread in a narrow strip east of the Jürdingen line , including Mülheim an der Ruhr , Essen-Verdun and most of Essen-Ketwig , Velbert-Langenberg , Wuppertal- Elberfeld , Remscheid- Luttringhausen , Remscheid- Lennep , Marries , Wördeweschwerdenwald , Würdewerdenwald Gummersbach , Bergneustadt . Ripuar dialects are common south of the Benrath line . From Westphalian, East Berg is separated by the Westphalian line .
