Biography
Born on August 19, 1961 in Kapsukas in the south-west of Lithuania.
She graduated from the piano, then the vocal faculty of the Vilnius Conservatory .
Since 1991 she continued her studies with Astrid Varnay at the Higher School of Music in Munich . Soon she was admitted to the studio at the Bavarian State Opera .
She made her debut on stage in 1993 in the part of Laura ( "The Mona Lisa" by A. Ponchielli ) in the opera of St. Gallen .
The singer gained world fame, performing the parts of mezzo-soprano . In 2002, Violeta Urmana began her “second career” as a soprano and again conquered the opera world [1] [2] [3] .
Awards and titles
- Winner of the international competitions "Belvedere" in Vienna and F. Vignas in Barcelona.
- She was awarded the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas III degree and the National Prize of Lithuania for Culture and Art (2001).
- In 2002, the singer received the Royal Philharmonic Society Award in London and the Franco Abbiati Award in Bergamo .
- In 2009, she was awarded the honorary title “Kammersängerin” in Vienna.
