Nicolas Chevalier (2nd half of the 17th century (most often indicated 1650 or 1661 years), Sedan - 1720, Antwerp) - archaeologist, numismatist , engraver and merchant of French origin.
Descended from a Protestant merchant family, was a Protestant pastor. As a result of the cancellation of the edict of Nantes from 1598 by the edict of Fontainebleau, he fled to Amsterdam , where he opened a company trading in such exotic products as chocolate and spices, at the same time arranged a printing house. An experienced engraver, Chevalier himself engraved and printed his works. He studied ancient and contemporary medals and supplied classic works with illustrations [1] . Gathered several significant collections of coins and medals. From 1703 to 1716 he lived in Utrecht , after the death of his wife he returned to Amsterdam, where he died.
