History

Brewing in the vicinity of Velki Sharish has centuries-old traditions, the existence of a brewery workshop in the town is mentioned in sources already from the beginning of the 16th century.

The latest history of the Šariš brewery began in 1964 , when the construction of the latest brewery began in Wielki Šariš, which, with the completion of construction in 1967, became the largest brewery in Slovakia . In 1969, exports began; the first importing countries were the USSR and Hungary. Later, a large-scale modernization of production was carried out, which made it possible to bring annual beer production volumes to 9 million decalitres already in 1983 . The brewery was one of the first in Czechoslovakia to switch to fermentation and maturation of beer in cylindrical-conical tanks instead of the traditional two-tank method. In the early 1990s, the brewery was privatized, and it proved its viability in a market economy.

A new stage in the history of the enterprise began in 1997 , when the South African brewing giant SAB acquired control over it, which subsequently transformed into the international corporation SABMiller . [1] In early 2007, the owners of the brewery decided to merge their assets in Slovakia, which, in addition to the Šariš brewery, included the Topvar brewery in Topolcany , into one legal entity called Pivovary Topvar, as

Since March 2010, Topvar Brewery completely stopped production, retaining the functions of a regional distributor . Šariš Brewery fully assumed production functions in the structure of Pivovary Topvar, as

On December 13, 2016, Pivovary Topvar, as became the property of Asahi Breweries, Ltd. In 2018, it was renamed Plzeňský Prazdroj Slovensko, a. s .
