Background

Ramon Cabrera first appeared in 1833 as the leader of one of the Carlist troops. His name soon became famous in Valencia and Aragon. In December 1836, at the Rincon del Soto (in Aragon), his detachment was destroyed by the superior forces of the Christos and he himself was seriously wounded. Within a few months, however, he again had a detachment of 10 thousand people and in the spring of 1837 inflicted severe defeats on the Christos. Completely shattered and wounded again at Torre Blanca, he soon appeared again on the field of action and supported Don Carlos during his campaign in Madrid. Don Carlos elevated him to the rank of Count Morell and made him Governor-General of Aragon, Valencia and Murcia.

On July 6, 1840, Cabrere was forced to cross, with 8,000 people, into French territory. Here he began to diverge more and more from the close associates of Don Carlos, so the latter formally displaced him in May 1842. When Don Carlos, in 1845, renounced his claim to the Spanish throne in favor of his son, Count Montemolino, Cabrer went with the latter to England.

The course of the war

In 1848, Cabrer again provoked the Carlist uprising in Catalonia, but was defeated at Pasteral (January 29, 1849) and seriously wounded, he soon had to seek refuge abroad.

In England, Cabrera led a peaceful life and married an Englishwoman.
