The Order “Sun of Freedom” is an award of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan . The Order was established on October 16, 1981 as the highest award of the DRA . Prior to that, the highest order was the Order of the “Saur Revolution” .

Statute
The Order “Sun of Freedom” was awarded for outstanding achievements in revolutionary, state, political and social activities. He noted the merits in strengthening unity, fraternity and friendship among all nationalities, tribes and nationalities of the country. This order was also awarded to citizens for outstanding achievements in strengthening and developing friendship and cooperation between the people of Afghanistan and the people of other countries, and maintaining peace between peoples.
Mark Description
The Order is a multibeam hammered star with diamond edges of 52 mm in diameter, in the center of which is attached a golden gilt coat of arms of the DRA with a diameter of 17 mm.
The back side - smooth, slightly concave to the middle, has the inscriptions: at the top - “Sun of Freedom” on Pashto; below is the "Sun of Freedom" in Farsi. In the center of the back side of the sign, there is a serial number, located between the two pins that secure the patch coat of arms on the front side.
With the help of a lug and a ring, the order is attached to an oblong pentagonal block covered with silk moire ribbon with stripes of equal green, red and black color. The edges of the tape are edged with narrow white stripes 1.5 mm wide each.
