Guyot (language)

Gayo ( indon. Bahasa Gayo ) - a language that is part of the Austronesian family , is distributed in the province of Aceh in the north of Sumatra . According to Ethnologue , the number of speakers of this language was 300 thousand people. in 2000 [1] . Basically, this language is spoken in the districts of Gayolues , Benermeriah , Southeast Aceh , in the city of Takengon and etc.

According to the accepted classification of Austronesian languages, gayo belongs to the West probe zone , to its Early Sumatran branch. It differs from the other languages ​​of Aceh, however, as the culture of the Gaio people themselves differs from the cultures of neighboring ethnic groups. The following dialects are distinguished: derret, serbejadi-lukup, loot, luez [1] .

The first dictionary for this language was compiled in 1907 for the colonial authorities of the Dutch East Indies [2] .
