History
It was founded on February 27, 1922 as a school for training senior and junior police officers in accordance with order No. 56 of the chief of the Odessa Provincial Police on the basis of courses of senior and junior police officers at the Odessa Provincial Police.
During the period from 1922 to 1941, the school trained more than 1300 specialists for the internal affairs bodies.
In the early days of World War II, the functions of the school as an educational institution completely changed - instead of training the NKVD personnel, it was involved as a combat unit to solve a number of issues of ensuring public order during the raid of enemy aircraft, to detain deserters, and to directly combat spies and thieves , speculators and looters. The school helped to mobilize the population to create defensive lines around Odessa, as well as barricades in the city itself, to perform other important wartime activities.
At the initiative of the school’s leadership, a Special Forces detachment of the NKVD troops of the Odessa Defense Region was created. On August 26, 1941, in order No. 011 of the forces of the Primorsky Army it was noted: "To form a UNKVD in the Odessa region a detachment of special forces in the amount of 1,200 people, to enroll in all types of allowances except money."
The detachment became a tactical reserve of the command of the Primorsky Army, and its mobility allowed the transfer of a specific number of soldiers to solve local combat missions.
A detachment of special forces, like all Odessa police officers, left the city by order of the Headquarters . On the night of October 8, personnel from the front line were sent to the rear. Private and sergeant personnel were transferred to the 95th Infantry Division directly at the command post of Major General Vorobyov in Kholodnaya Balka. Officers were evacuated to Crimea on October 10 [1]
April 15, 1945 the school resumed its activities.
In 1952, the school was reformed into the Odessa Special Secondary Police School of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In 1992, according to the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine dated 11.03.1992 No. 139, the Odessa Special Secondary Police School was reorganized into the Odessa Police School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, according to the Law of Ukraine "On Education", it becomes a higher educational institution.
On December 12, 1994, by resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 818 and by order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine No. 108 of February 20, 1995, the Odessa Institute of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was established on the basis of the police school.
