Biography

The son of Major General Alexander Ivanovich Knirim, who came from a merchant estate.

In 1854 he graduated from the Voronezh Gymnasium . In 1858 he graduated from the Imperial College of Law and began serving in the Ministry of Justice ; since 1860 - legal adviser to the consultation at the Ministry of Justice.

In 1862 he was appointed a member of the commission on the preparation of judicial statutes , where he was one of the main specialists in civil proceedings and judicial system; contributed to the development of adversarial litigation .

Since 1863 - official of special assignments of the 6th grade under the Minister of Justice. In 1865, he was at the disposal of the Estonian, Livonian, and Courland governor-generals to participate in drafting his opinion on the application to Ostsee of the main principles of the transformation of the judicial part of Russia. In the same year he participated in the development of legislation on the enforcement of judicial statutes on November 20, 1864.

In 1866, at the opening of the St. Petersburg District Court, he was appointed as a fellow chairman to one of its civilian branches, then was elected chairman of the St. Petersburg commercial court. In 1869 he was a member of the commission under the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the affairs of the capital's administration; in 1871 - in the commission under the Ministry of Justice on the transformation of commercial courts.

Since 1872 - Chief Prosecutor of the Civil Cassation Department of the Senate. Since 1878 - senator of the same department; since 1882 - assistant to the chairman, since 1900 - chairman of the commission on the preparation of the draft Civil Code. In 1901 he was appointed a member of the Council of State .

In the 1860s He was an assistant editor of the Journal of the Ministry of Justice , published several articles in it (for example, “On Hanover Civil Procedure”). Since 1870, he published with N. A. Tur a Journal of Civil and Commercial Law (since 1872, the Journal of Civil and Criminal Law , co-editor N. S. Tagantsev ); in 1879 the journal was transferred to the St. Petersburg Law Society. His translations of legal literature and collections are known.

He was buried in St. Petersburg at the Tikhvin Cemetery .
