Mikhail Evgrafovich Kovalevsky ( October 7, 1829 St. Petersburg - January 31, 1884 , St. Petersburg ) is a Russian lawyer, senator , and a real privy councilor from the Kovalevsky family. Member of the development and implementation of the judicial reform of the 1860s .

Biography
The eldest son of the Minister of Education Evgraf Petrovich Kovalevsky .
At the end of the course at the School of Law, he held positions in the judicial department. Since 1862, he is an editorial member of a commission formed to draft laws to transform the judicial part. He was the first chief prosecutor of the criminal cassation department.
From 1870, he was a senator, from 1878, the first-present criminal cassation department. In 1879, a member of the Supreme Criminal Court in the case of A. Solovyov , who attempted to assassinate Emperor Alexander II .
In 1880, he conducted an audit of the Ufa and Orenburg provinces and the affairs of the Orenburg governor-general, and then the Kazan province.
Since 1881 - Member of the State Council for the Department of Laws. The St. Petersburg agricultural colony for juvenile delinquents owes him his device.
Kovalevsky was credited with "impartiality and a deep understanding of the judicial statutes, revealed by him as chief prosecutor and senator of the criminal cassation department of the Senate."
He died in 1884 "after a short terrible suffering caused by some mysterious reason" [1] . He was buried in the Trinity-Sergius desert near St. Petersburg [2] .
