Biography

Ed Stafford began expeditions in 2002 after completing military service. A former military man, he worked at the UN Mission in Afghanistan , participated in the BBC conservation project “Lost Lands of the Jaguar.”

In April 2008, Ed Stafford went on his unprecedented walking expedition along the entire Amazon. Stafford's journey began in Peru and lasted 859 days (almost two and a half years), and ended at the mouth of the river on the Atlantic coast, 150 km northeast of the Brazilian city of Belem. In fact, the traveler planned to complete his unprecedented crossing in about a year, but the route was extended due to floods that forced him to take a detour. As a result, instead of the planned 6,400 km, more than 9,600 km had to be traveled along the Amazon, which is 6,992 km long. Stafford began the journey with the British adventurer, Luca Collier, but the couple quarreled at the beginning of the campaign, and the brave Englishman continued on his own. However, in July 2008, he was joined by a Peruvian forestry worker, Gadiel Sanchez Rivera, who pledged to be his guide for five days, but ended up staying with him until the end of the trip. Throughout the route, Stafford filmed everything that happens to him on video.

In May 2009, Stafford appeared on the cover of Geographical Magazine, which belongs to the Royal Geographical Society [2] .

In 2011, the Discovery Channel, based on Stafford’s footage, shot the two-part documentary Walking Along the Amazon . In the same year, the Guinness Book of Records officially recognized the achievements of Stafford [3] , and his record appeared in the 2012 edition.

In 2013, Discovery released Edward Stafford's “ Naked Survival, ” in which he travels to the uninhabited island of Olorua in the Fiji archipelago and tries to survive for 60 days without tools, clothes or clothing.

In 2014, Edd Stafford continues to experiment with survival and starred in the Discovery series Survival Without Cut . In the framework of the new nine-episode program, he sets himself the goal: not only to survive in the six harshest corners of the planet (jungle, bush, forest, swamp, coast and mountains), but to achieve physical and intellectual comfort. In each of the six episodes, Ed is selected to remote locations for ten days. He has a chance to die within a few hours, he is deprived of the opportunity to communicate with the outside world and can only rely on himself. From the equipment he takes with him only a camera to capture his adventures, a satellite phone, a first-aid kit and nothing from tools, food and clothing.

  • In the first series, he lands in the tropical jungle of Venezuela on the famous Roraima at an altitude of 1700 meters.
  • In the second episode, Ed faces new dangers in the Okavango Delta in Botswana.
  • In the third series, Ed heads to a remote Carpathian region in Romania.
  • In the fourth episode, Ed landed on the inhospitable coast of Western Australia.
  • In the fifth episode, Ed challenges the jungles of Kalimantan.
  • In the sixth series, we see Ed in Thailand.
  • In the seventh episode, Ed is in Rwanda.
  • In episode 8, Ed encounters difficulties in the Desert of Sonora, Arizona.
  • In the ninth series (final series), Ed gives tips on his survival.
