Lempira ( Spanish: Lempira , d. 1537) - Cacique (leader) of the Indian tribe Lenca , opposed the invasion of the Spanish conquistadors led by Francisco de Montejo on the territory of modern Western Honduras . The national hero of Honduras , he named the currency and one of the 18 departments of Honduras , as well as the city of Puerto Lempira . In the language of Lenka, his name supposedly means "Lord of the mountains" or "Lord of the mountain."
