" People's Artist of the Lithuanian SSR " ( lit. Lietuvos TSR liaudies artistas ) - honorary title, established April 26, 1941 . It was appropriated by the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR to outstanding artists who were particularly distinguished in the development of theater, music and cinema.
As a rule, it was awarded no earlier than five years after the honorary title “ Honored Artist of the Lithuanian SSR ” or “ Honored Art Worker of the Lithuanian SSR ”. The next degree of recognition was the awarding of the title of People's Artist of the USSR .
The award was first held in 1945 - Petrauskas became the owner of this title , Kipras became an opera singer (tenor).
The last awarded in 1988 was Karka, Gediminas - theater and film actor.
With the collapse of the Soviet Union in Lithuania, the title "People's Artist of the Lithuanian SSR" was replaced by the title " People's Artist of Lithuania ", while the title retained the rights and obligations stipulated by the legislation of the former USSR and Lithuanian SSR on awards.
