Joseph "Joe" Kubert ( born Joseph "Joe" Kubert [ˈkjuːbərt] ; September 18, 1926 [1] - August 12, 2012) is an American artist, comic book artist, and founder and teacher of the Coubert School. Born in Poland [2] , into a Jewish family [3] who moved to Brooklyn , New York when he was 2 months old.

His most famous works are the comic book series on the characters of Sergeant Roque and the Hawkman , published by DC Comics ; he is also the creator of several characters (the most famous is the primitive man Tor ( Eng. Tor )). His two sons, Andy Coubert and Adam Coubert , also became comic book artists. In 1997, he received the Harvey Award ; in 1998, he was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame.
