Club career

Karakan was born on February 21, 1989 in London from a Turkish father and an English mother. Between the ages of seven and fourteen, he trained at Wimbledon Junior Academy until the club moved to Milton Keynes . He received an offer to continue his education at his father ’s club “Galatasaray” , but the young player refused, because he did not know the Turkish language and was afraid of possible language problems. Instead, he joined the Reading Club.

July 6, 2007 signed a two-year contract with Reading and made his debut for the club on August 26 in a match against Luton Town . However, the player failed to gain a foothold in the composition and was leased to Bournemouth , who played in the First Football League of England . Initially, the lease was designed for one month, but then extended for another six months, until January 2008. As part of the Bournemouth, he left in the starting lineup and managed to distinguish himself twice. The second half of the 2007/08 season, Karakan again leased, this time in another club of the First Football League Millwall , for which he spent only 7 matches.

The 2008/09 season, Karakan began at Reading, mostly coming on as a substitute. The first official goal for the club was scored on August 26, 2008 at the Luton Town goal in the match for the football league cup . By the end of the season due to injuries of James Harper and Marek Matejovsky began to appear in the starting lineup. In October 2008, he signed a new contract with the club for two and a half years. On August 20, 2011 he held his 100th match in a Reading T-shirt. However, on April 6, in a match with Leeds United , Karakan broke his ankle after a tough clash with an opponent's midfielder Michael Brown . This season for the young player is over. Once again, he appeared on the field already in the Premier League - on August 22 he entered the field in the starting lineup for the match against Chelsea , which Reading lost 4-2, and Karakan was replaced in 71 minutes.

International Career

Karakan represented various youth teams of Turkey and was even a captain. However, for the main national team of Turkey did not debut and, thanks to dual citizenship, has the right to play for the English team .
