History
Due to the fact that at the end of World War II , the war for the independence of Indonesia began , the Netherlands began to look for ways for a new post-war structure of the East Indies, which would allow, having satisfied part of the requirements of the local population, to keep in some form the connection of these territories with the Netherlands. In July 1946, a conference was held in Malino , which brought together 39 delegates from the island of Kalimantan and from East Indonesia, representing local Rajas , Christians, national minorities, etc. One of the decisions of the conference was the creation of an independent state in East Indonesia.
In December 1946, a conference was held in Denpasar , which was attended mainly by representatives of East Indonesia. On December 24, 1946, the conference decided to create the State of the Great East ( indon. Negara Timur Besar ), on December 27 renamed the State of East Indonesia.
In December 1947, negotiations began in Yogyakarta between the State of East Indonesia and the Republic of Indonesia, at the same time the Union for the Independence of Indonesia was created in Makassar . In January 1948, an agreement was reached on the entry of East Indonesia into the future single Indonesian state; The Republic of Indonesia had to agree to form a federation. In 1949, East Indonesia became part of the Republic of the United States of Indonesia .
