
Census of the population and housing of Turkmenistan in 2012 ( Turkmen. Türkmenistanyň ilatynyň we ýaşaýyş jaý gorunyň 2012-nji ýyldaky uçdantutma ýazuwy ) - the second [1] , after gaining sovereignty, the census of the population of Turkmenistan . It was held from December 15 to 26, 2012. The census involved all citizens of Turkmenistan, as well as citizens of foreign countries who were on the territory of Turkmenistan [2] . The previous census took place in 1995 [3] [3] [4] . 25 thousand people were involved in the census [5] . The processing of the information received, the generation of results, their publication and dissemination should have been carried out in 2013 - 2014 [6] , but as of the beginning of 2019, this has not been done .
For the first time in the history of Turkmenistan during the census, not only the population was recorded, but also the housing stock.
The census was organized by the State Committee for Statistics of Turkmenistan . The census results will be entered into the geographic information system [7] .
The census was held in accordance with the decision of the United Nations to conduct a population and housing census in the UN member countries in 2005-2014.

Dates
Preparations for the census began in 2008 [8] .
The decree of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov established that a continuous census of the population and housing of Turkmenistan should be held on December 15-26, 2012 [9] .
From August 23 to 27, 2010 a trial census was held [10] .
From September 14 to 24, 2012 [3] [4] , the first census stage was conducted in 365 settlements of inaccessible areas and districts of livestock breeding located in 28 etraps of all velayats of the country [11] .
From December 15 to 26, 2012, the main stage of the census was held. The moment at which information about the population is collected was 0 hours on December 15, 2012. From December 27 to 30, 2012, a control round was conducted, which was to reveal under-accounting or double-counting.
Stages
Workplan for the processing and publication of the 2012 census results: [12]
- From January to June 2013 - preparation of census materials for automated processing (coding, logical control, adjustment), input, control and editing of primary census data
- July 2013 - obtaining preliminary census results
- July - August 2013 - publication of preliminary census results
- September - October 2013 - obtaining preliminary results of the housing census
- November - December 2013 - distribution of the census results in print and electronic form (using WEB and GIS technologies)
Summary
The publication of preliminary results (despite the census plan for 2013 [12] ) did not take place on time (in the summer of 2013), including as of November 2013 [13] [14] . They were not officially published later, until the beginning of 2019.
Jobs
The census involved employees of ministries and departments, workers of khyakimliks, teachers of schools and universities, medical workers, and senior students [15] .
Commemorative coins and stamps
The Central Bank of Turkmenistan on December 20, 2012 announced the release of two commemorative coins of gold and silver dedicated to the census [16] .
